The following lists some of the positions and companies in which alumni of the Travel program at MacEwan University have held. While the basis of MacEwan’s training best prepares you for the role of Travel Agent (Travel Consultant), there are endless career paths.

Travel Agencies

Positions: Travel Agent/Consultant/Counsellor, Cruise Counsellor, Group Specialist, Corporate/Leisure/International/Destination/Wedding Agent or Specialist, Supervisor, Team Lead Corporate/Leisure Sales Manager, Manager, Branch Manager, Group Manager, Regional Manager, Marketing Manager, Trainer, Sales & Marketing Manager, Sales & Operations Manager, Manager – Education & Development, Vice President & COO, Owner, President

This is a small list of the companies that employ our graduates. We couldn’t possibly list them all as we have grads throughout Edmonton, Alberta and Canada at independent agencies, large chain offices and franchises such as: AMA Travel Services, Adventure Travel Company, Courtesy Travel & Cruise, Edmonton Travel, Flight Centre, Marlin Travel, Paull Travel, Sears Travel Service, TierOne Travel, Transat Distribution Canada, Travel CUTS, Uniglobe Travel

Other Travel Industry Jobs

Tour Operators/Suppliers: Generally the positions within these companies would be in the following areas: Business Development, Reservations and Sales. Although some grads have also gone on to roles with more responsibility such as Director of Sales, Operations Controller, Group Sales Manager, Office Manager, Regional Manager.

Air Canada Vacations, Anderson Vacations, Backside Tours, Celebrity Cruise Lines, Club Med, Contiki Holidays, Goway Travel, Nagel Tours, Nolitours, RBC Insurance, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Sandals & Beaches Resorts, Signature Vacations, Sunwing Vacations, Thomas Cook, Trafalgar Tours, Transat Holidays, Trek Holidays,WestJet Vacations.

Hotels: Another sector of the industry that our grads go to work is hotels. Generally it is in the sales department, due to the solid background of sales training received here at MacEwan. They are, or have been in such roles as Corporate Sales Manager, General Manager and Regional Director, of many of the leading hotels in and around Edmonton such as: Coast Edmonton Plaza, Courtyard by Marriott, Delta Edmonton South, Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Inn, Sutton Place, The Westin.

Other exciting jobs: Tour Guide in Europe, Destination Representative in the Caribbean, Purser on an International Cruise Line, Flight Attendant with companies such as Westjet, Emirates and Lufthansa Airlines, Instructor, Program Advisor, Curriculum Coordinator & Program Chair with the Travel Program at Grant MacEwan University!

Although these positions are not ones we train you for, it does not mean that having a solid Travel Industry background will not give you the advantage needed to land your dream job.
